About this grant
This grant to Brown University supports the completion of a six-year study designed to provide a longitudinal exploration of the contribution of community organizing to school improvement and increased student achievement. The study focuses on the work of eight sites that have demonstrated the ability to produce school improvement over the past decade and will document a range of ways in which community organizing strategies produce concrete educational improvements for low-income children. The findings from this study will be invaluable for promoting effective partnerships between parents, community organizations, and schools in low-income communities. This grant increase will support the expenses associated with a convening of representatives from the eight sites, along with the research team and advisory committee.
