About this grant

This grant will support the Eastern Pennsylvania Organizing Project’s education work focused on school safety, reading, small schools, professional development and teacher distribution. In addition, funding will enable the project to participate in a Mott-funded study to examine the contribution of education organizing to reform efforts in low-performing districts and schools.During the past two years, the project continued to negotiate with the school district over a small schools policy; successfully advocated for the replacement of one of the oldest school facilities in the city; hosted a three-day training event that is now required for principal candidates to prepare them for understanding and working with the community; and participated in a coalition working for distribution of more qualified teachers in distressed schools.
