About this grant

The Institute for Agriculture and Trade Policy (IATP) is working to strengthen the voice of civil society in the global arena by urging multilateral institutions that govern international finance and trade to promote sustainable development. In response to the current crisis in confidence about whether these institutions fairly represent the needs and concerns of the world’s citizens in sustainable development, the IATP focuses on addressing the broad issues of accountability and transparency of these institutions.Multiyear funding will enable the IATP to monitor global and regional trade discussions; promote trade alternatives; strengthen the global environmental agenda; highlight the 60th anniversary of the United Nations and Bretton Woods institutions; and advocate for reform of the multilateral system of global governance.Achievements during the past two years included strengthening the voice of civil society at major conferences, negotiations and other decisionmaking processes; building the capacity of local, state and national governments to benefit while avoiding the negative effects of globalization through consultation, training and networking; and increasing the understanding and willingness of civil society organizations and communities to act on global issues through public education.
