About this grant
Since 1996, the Forum of Migrants’ Organizations has promoted the legitimate rights and interests of migrants in Russia by advocating for a more humane governmental migration policy; helping migrants protect their rights and integrate into Russian society; encouraging cooperation among migrants’ non-governmental organizations (NGOs); developing the capacity of member NGOs; and promoting a positive public attitude toward migrants.Multiyear funding will enable the forum to promote the integration of migrants into Russian society; continue its advocacy efforts to improve governmental migration policy at the federal level; and launch a new program to establish regional agencies for social adaptation to coordinate the activities of all migrant NGOs within a region.Recent accomplishments included organizing roundtables on migration policy at two Russian national conventions of NGOs; participating in meetings between human rights organizations and political parties to promote migrant issues in their electoral platforms; conducting a seminar for regional journalists who write about migration issues; and coordinating meetings and concerts in seven Russian cities to raise public awareness of the plight of Chechen refugees and war children.
