About this grant

The goal of the project is to foster community-based citizen engagement and advocacy around key issues facing Montenegro. During 2002-2003, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) provided capacity building and technical assistance to grassroots non-governmental organizations (NGOs) working to reduce poverty and protect the environment.Funding will enable UNDP to focus on crafting additional national strategy documents on priority issues, such as poverty reduction, sustainable development, gender, Roma integration and drug abuse prevention. UNDP will provide small grants and organize training, technical assistance and networking opportunities for community-based citizen groups.A major accomplishment of the project was mobilizing public participation in the development of the National Development Strategy and the Poverty Reduction Strategy Paper required by the World Bank.
