About this grant
The Volunteer Center Foundation was established in 2001 to encourage volunteering in Hungary. It complements the work of other Hungarian non-governmental organizations (NGOs) by serving as an information and resource center.Multiyear funding will enable the center to pursue activities that include recruiting, registering and placing volunteers; advocating for an enabling legislative environment for volunteering; promoting volunteerism at the local and national levels; conducting comprehensive research on volunteering and individual giving among Hungarians; establishing regional volunteer centers and programs in rural areas; and participating in international networks to share experiences among NGOs promoting volunteering in Europe.During the past two years, accomplishments included raising awareness of the importance of volunteerism through published articles and radio and television appearances in the national media; organizing Volunteers’ Week to promote volunteering; participating in preparations of the Law on Volunteerism; and developing a training program on volunteer management.
