About this grant

This grant will provide partial support to Gender Links to continue its effort to encourage and promote gender equity in South Africa. The grantee provides training, conducts research, and supports advocacy to ensure the attainment of gender equality in South Africa and the broader Southern African region. While prior work has concentrated on researching the role of women in politics in South Africa, developing strategies for mainstreaming gender in local government, and disseminating these findings, this grant will focus on supporting the implementation of action plans. Gender Links will provide ongoing support for the roll out of gender action plans in all nine South African provinces, provide training to councilors in two additional major municipalities, and develop a flagship project around the 2010 Soccer World Cup.
