About this grant
"The New Americans," a PBS miniseries examining America and the American Dream through the eyes of immigrants and refugees from the Dominican Republic, India, the Israeli-occupied West Bank, Mexico and Nigeria, aired in March 2004. Produced by Active Voice, a division of American Documentary, the documentary was filmed over five years in an effort to humanize the diverse immigrant experiences in the United States and to encourage discussion about ways to integrate immigrants into communities as active leaders and citizens. Educational materials were developed and successfully used in five pilot sites.Funding will support the second phase of outreach including using the lessons learned from the first phase; leveraging and replicating the successes experienced at the five pilot sites; and responding to requests for training on how to use film-based tools. Objectives include extending the outreach campaign to gateway communities in three to five new states; providing training and technical assistance to new partners by replicating the training of trainers program; and including new partners in current networking activities to encourage peer exchanges.
