About this grant
GuideStar provides access via the Internet to comprehensive information about the activities and finances of U.S. nonprofit organizations. Its "public research library" on the Web serves nonprofit organizations, donors, foundations and businesses. In addition, GuideStar provides a variety of tools to help nonprofit organizations work more effectively.Multiyear funding will enable GuideStar to maintain and increase ongoing activities such as digitizing nonprofit tax return data; expand its database by adding information on educational and religious organizations; and enlarge collaboration with federal, state and local government entities as they monitor nonprofit organizations.Since 2003, nearly 300,000 individuals have registered for free access to financial and narrative data on more than one million U.S. nonprofit organizations. In addition, GuideStar has partnered with federal, state and local government agencies such as the IRS and the Federal Trade Commission to provide information on the operations of nonprofit organizations and donors.
