GuideStar is the largest and best-known provider of information about nonprofit organizations in the United States, with data on over 1.7 million nonprofit organizations in its database. Millions use its free public services, and thousands use its paid services. Its database also includes 3.3 million nonprofit tax return forms. GuideStar’s data services provide greater transparency for the nonprofit sector, encourage charitable giving by building public interest and trust, and enable individuals and institutions involved with charitable activities and organizations to make better decisions. This grant increase will support a major project to update the GuideStar Web site and database to accommodate the recently revamped nonprofit tax return form, the IRS Form 990.
