About this grant
The Karoo Centre for Human Rights works to promote access to justice by poor and marginalized communities in the Eastern, Western, and Northern Cape provinces. This grant will support the centre to continue providing training and mentoring support to community-based advice offices in these provinces to enable them to educate communities about their rights and how to access them. The centre works in mostly rural areas and small towns, which are characterized by high levels of illiteracy, poverty, and unemployment. The advice offices are often the only places that community members can go to for legal advice and for gaining access to social grants and related government services, which makes their continued existence critical for these communities.
