About this grant

The Karoo Centre for Human Rights was established in 1998 to promote the advancement of human rights through training of paralegals and communities on the access and understanding of basic human rights. The grantee works with poor and marginalized communities in the Eastern, Western, and Northern Cape provinces of South Africa, in areas characterized by high levels of illiteracy, poverty, and unemployment. Previous support enabled the grantee to provide training and mentoring support to community-based advice offices in these provinces to enable them to educate communities about their rights and how to access them. This renewal grant will support the grantee to participate in networks and collaborations aimed at improving access to justice and human rights for poor people.
