About this grant
This grant will enable Freedom House to focus on broadening public support at the community level for dealing with the past in Serbia and Montenegro as a means of building a positive future in the region. To this end, Freedom House will help grassroots civic organizations connect with and participate in national and regional initiatives related to dealing with the past and carry out community-level, awareness-raising projects.During the past year and a half, Freedom House awarded $115,000 in small grants to nine organizations. Examples of projects that were supported include the production of a series of four half-hour episodes for television on specific human rights atrocities during the past 10 years; a series of six roundtables bringing together a cross-section of actors to discuss transitional justice in Serbia and Montenegro; and a regional film festival focused on the recent past.
