About this grant
The Tides Center sponsors and provides financial and human services and administrative oversight to nearly 200 projects nationwide that fit in three program areas: 1) community development and services; 2) environment and health; and 3) policy, strategy, and global initiatives. This grant continues support for the Philanthropic Initiative for Racial Equity, a program of the Tides Center. The program’s goal is to build the amount and effectiveness of resources aimed at combating institutional and structural racism through capacity building, education, and convening grantmakers and grantseekers. Since it began in 2003, the program has engaged hundreds of foundation representatives in discussions of racial equity focusing specifically on how they can advance the mission of achieving racial equity through their philanthropic organizations. In 2010-11, the program will continue to conduct workshops with regional associations of grantmakers and other funders, test and assess tools to measure the impact of racial equity grantmaking, and produce papers and reports related to grantmaking issues in the field of racial equity.
