About this grant

Informing State Legislatures: Statewide Afterschool Policy, a project of the National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL), helps state legislators learn about developments in afterschool programs and in the Afterschool Technical Assistance Collaborative (ATAC). The collaborative — National Conference of State Legislatures, National Governors Association, Council of Chief State School Officers, National League of Cities, Finance Project, the University of South Carolina Education Foundation and the Afterschool Alliance — is a group of national organizers working to help states build statewide afterschool networks.Multiyear funding will support efforts to inform state legislatures about afterschool policy, research and programs; and provide technical assistance to pending and current statewide afterschool networks as part of ATAC. Activities will include convening an advisory group to identify key issues, share information, discuss legislative strategies and build connections; maintaining a Web site to track statewide afterschool initiatives and provide a current and accessible source of information; organizing at least one session on afterschool programs at NCSL’s national conference; and producing two publications on innovative afterschool programs.Recent accomplishments included developing and publishing a guide to move state afterschool legislation forward; publishing two legislative briefs to inform state legislators and staff; and convening an advisory group to examine afterschool issues.
