About this grant
This grant will continue to support the National Conference of State Legislatures in its work to educate state legislators about the value of afterschool and its contributions to education policy. Specifically, the National Conference of State Legislatures will: 1) publish a summary and guide on the state role in afterschool initiatives; 2) collect data and publish a legislative brief on how states fund afterschool through the school finance formula; 3) publish a retrospective report on state activities resulting from the first round of Supporting Student Success grants; 4) convene an advisory committee of state legislators to advise staff of ongoing activities; 5) support legislators who are planning deeper links between afterschool and state education systems through oversight and co-implementation of the next round of Supporting Student Success grants; 6) continue support of the statewide afterschool networks through participation in the Afterschool Technical Assistance Collaborative; and 7) provide legislative technical assistance in the form of testimony, legislative language consultation, and other speaking and meeting opportunities. The Supporting Student Success project will be done in partnership with the Council of Chief State School Officers and the National Governors Association Center for Best Practices.
