About this grant

The goal of the Balkan Trust for Democracy, supported by the German Marshall Fund of the United States, the United States Agency for International Development and the Mott Foundation, is to promote democracy and strengthen democratic political institutions in Albania, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Macedonia, Romania, and Serbia and Montenegro; and to advance cross-border cooperation in this region with the aim of promoting political, social and economic development necessary to ensure long-term stability. To achieve these goals, the grantee set up a grantmaking fund, called the Balkan Trust for Democracy, that operates as a project of the grantee through an office in Belgrade. The trust is supported by the grantee, with the goal of attracting other donors to the trust over time. This grant increase represents Mott’s second installment.
