About this grant
This grant increase represents the third of five grants to the Balkan Trust for Democracy, which operates through the German Marshall Fund (GMF). The goal of the trust is to support democratic governance and strengthen democratic political institutions in Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Serbia and Montenegro, Macedonia, Romania, and Bulgaria; and to advance cross-border cooperation in this region with the aim of promoting political, social and economic development necessary to ensure long-term stability. Supported by GMF, the United States Agency for International Development, Mott and the Dutch government, a goal of the trust is to attract other donors over time. Since its establishment in August 2003, the trust has made more than 120 grants totaling approximately $3,250,000.
