About this grant
The goal of the Balkan Trust for Democracy is to support democratic governance and strengthen democratic political institutions in Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Serbia and Montenegro, Macedonia, Romania, and Bulgaria and to advance cross-border cooperation in this region to promote the political, social and economic development necessary to ensure long-term stability. The German Marshall Fund of the United States set up the trust, a grantmaking fund that operates through an office in Belgrade, in August 2003. Since that time, the trust has made more than 200 grants totaling $4,420,000.This grant increase provides continued support to the trust.
