About this grant

Developed by the Asian Pacific American Legal Center of Southern California, the Leadership Development in Interethnic Relations (LDIR) initiative is a community-based leadership training program that complements other initiatives that address race-related issues. The program is being replicated by the YWCA of Greater Flint to raise awareness of, and develop the skills needed, to address issues related to race, ethnicity and other biases.Funding will support a second training cycle with objectives that include completing a six-month leadership training session; establishing four human relations community projects by LDIR teams and community partners; sponsoring four community-wide "Issue Forums" that utilize local or national expertise; implementing fundraising strategies to develop resources; and conducting two fee-based training sessions for area businesses.During the first six-month training cycle, 20 out of 29 participants graduated; each participant contributed to one of four project teams; and an LDIR Operations Board was created.
