About this grant

Since 2002, the Illinois Statewide Afterschool Network, coordinated by the Illinois Center for Violence Prevention, has been developing a public/private network of stakeholders to build a statewide afterschool system. Multiyear funding will enable the center to provide core support to the network and support efforts to promote policies and practices for school-based/school-linked afterschool programs. In addition, the center will work to increase the effectiveness of communities in building public will around afterschool sustainability; and build the business sector’s support of local afterschool programs.Activities to date include building the capacity of current and potential afterschool workers; evaluating afterschool program assessments; providing support to quality afterschool programs statewide; building public will for increased investment in afterschool; and hosting a Governor’s Business Summit on Afterschool in 2004 to educate businesses about the afterschool movement.
