About this grant
Since 2002, the South Carolina Afterschool Alliance has been supporting the development of a statewide afterschool network to strengthen and guide high-quality afterschool programming and policies for South Carolina’s children and youth, particularly low-income and hard-to-reach populations.Multiyear funding will provide core support to the network and support efforts to promote policies and practices for school-based/school-linked afterschool programs. In addition, the network will develop a technical assistance protocol for school-based and school-linked afterschool programs that meets the needs of low-income children and hard-to-reach populations. To date, accomplishments included developing a study to assess the needs of afterschool providers; creating an online database to share information about new and existing afterschool programs; hosting a Governor’s After School Summit, "Increasing Learning Opportunities for Children in South Carolina"; and organizing a statewide afterschool conference to identify ways to increase sustainability, ensure quality and promote the importance of afterschool programs.
