About this grant

Since 2002, the Vermont Out-of-School Time Network has been strengthening and expanding a statewide afterschool network to build the capacity and sustainability of emerging and established afterschool programs so that all children and youth in Vermont will have access to quality afterschool learning opportunities. Multiyear funding will provide core support to the network and support efforts to promote policies and practices for school-based/school-linked afterschool programs. In addition, the network will develop and implement a public awareness/public will campaign to increase funds raised through the state tax check-off system.During the first three years of the network, the number of active key partners grew to include such organizations as the Vermont PTA; Vermont Recreation and Parks Association; Vermont Principal’s Association; Vermont Department of Health, Division of Health Improvement; and the Vermont Consortium. The network has helped these groups build a common vision and identify common goals and strategies. In addition, several work groups have been formed; the Legislative Work Group outlined a vigorous agenda designed to strengthen the policy infrastructure for afterschool in Vermont.
