About this grant
Since 2002, the University of Kansas Center for Research, along with various stakeholders, has been supporting the Kansas Statewide Afterschool Network and building afterschool partnerships throughout the state.Multiyear funding will enable the center to continue providing core support to the network and support efforts to promote policies and practices for school-based/school-linked afterschool programs. In addition, the network will develop a community self-assessment and planning sustainability model; create a community-driven communications plan to educate citizens; and strengthen afterschool curricula in math, science and writing.Recent activities included administering the Kansas 21st Century Community Learning Center program; completing a statewide funding resources map to help local boards identify funds not tied to grants; organizing the first Kansas Afterschool Celebration; working with Kansas Children’s Campaign to produce “Call for Quality Afterschool Programs in Kansas”; and securing $375,000 in public funds for afterschool enrichment grants.
