About this grant

Title I Supplemental Educational Services is a new funding source created to ensure that students increase their academic achievement, particularly in reading, language arts and math. Instruction must take place outside the regular school day and may include tutoring, remediation and academic intervention. Although $1 billion is currently available, there is a critical need to track the funding in order to make sure that services are delivered to the children in need.Funding will support activities that include monitoring implementation of supplemental educational services; identifying specific state regulations; alerting afterschool programs in selected states of the funding options; and preparing new information packets and updating state Web pages. Additional funding will support efforts to increase informed parental decisionmaking and expand work at the national level to link afterschool and supplemental educational services. The Afterschool Alliance, established in 1999, is a coalition of public, private and nonprofit organizations dedicated to raising public awareness and support for quality, affordable afterschool opportunities for all.
