About this grant
The purpose of the New America Foundation’s asset-building program is to significantly expand the ownership of assets in America, providing all Americans with both the means to get ahead and a way to contribute to the overall success of the economy. To this end, the program works to design and refine public policies that build, protect and control assets; educate the public about the benefits of asset building; and promote inclusive asset-building policies with leading policymakers.Multiyear funding will enable the project to promote policies that help low- and moderate-income families build assets; and increase public understanding of such policies and programs.During its first year, the project published a series of issues briefs and working papers; launched a comprehensive Web-based clearinghouse; placed op-eds and essays in significant media publications, such as the New York Times and Washington Post; and identified additional sources of support.
