About this grant
The goal of the Flint Healthcare Employment Opportunities Project is to create sustainable employment and promote career advancement for low-income Flint residents. During the past three years, the project has helped health-industry employers restructure their hiring, retention and promotion practices for entry-level healthcare employees.Fourth-year funding will enable the project to provide training for incumbent healthcare workers; organize training sessions for new entry-level healthcare clinical and nonclinical employees; place graduates in jobs; maintain a broad base of participating healthcare employers; help graduates to overcome barriers; conduct supervisory workshops for managers of entry-level healthcare employees; develop career pathways through the healthcare employment and educational systems; and build an effective information management system. To date, the project has successfully trained 100 clients, with more than 60 of those graduates being placed in well-paying local healthcare jobs.
