About this grant

The BEST (Building Excellence, Sustainability, and Trust) Project is a pooled fund created by local foundations and the United Way to provide technical assistance support to nonprofit organizations to promote clarity of goals, program planning and implementation, and greater stability and efficiency. Fourteen local nonprofits were selected for a diagnostic assessment and eleven were chosen to receive capacity-building grants ranging from $30,000 to $50,000.Third-year funding will enable the project to implement the second round of capacity-building grants for the first cohort of agencies; screen applications and begin assessments for the second cohort of approximately eight agencies; complete the evaluation of the first cohort and pilot phase of the project; continue recruiting high-level consultants; and share the BEST model with regional and national partners. Funding includes a grant increase to support the production of a videotape by Michigan Television (WFUM-TV 28) documenting the pilot phase of BEST. The goal of the videotape is to share knowledge; increase interest in coordinating capacity-building resources; and encourage cooperation and strategic collaborations within the philanthropic community to address community needs.
