About this grant

The success of sectoral employment initiatives demonstrates the social and economic benefits possible by investing in long-term training for the disadvantaged. Project QUEST was created by the Interfaith Education Fund (IEF) to serve the economically disadvantaged citizens of San Antonio, Texas. The program helps employers identify needed skills, increase pay scales, and partner with the community college to adjust curriculum and better prepare graduates for new jobs. Developing job training strategies in new sites is critical to families and local economies. Multiyear funding will enable IEF to replicate its sectoral employment initiatives in Dallas, El Paso, Houston and Los Angeles. Activities will include reevaluating local labor market conditions; reorganizing relationships with institutions of higher education; expanding the base of potential employers; and increasing sources of financial support.IEF was created in 1989 to help organizations affiliated with Industrial Areas Foundation take an active role in addressing the challenges facing their communities.
