About this grant

Since 1975, government leaders of major industrial democracies have met annually to address key economic and political issues facing their countries and the international community as a whole. This group of countries, known as the Group of Eight (G-8), includes Canada, France, Germany, Great Britain, Italy, Japan, Russia and the United States. In 2000, a group of highly experienced private experts — Shadow G-8 — from each of the countries began meeting to develop proposals for the G-8 Summit. The Shadow G-8 advises G-8 governments on the issues covered at the annual summits; offer proposals to the G-8 leaders; and publishes recommendations to help educate the public about the summits. Funding will enable the Institute for International Economics (IIE) to coordinate the Shadow G-8 preparatory meetings; commission outside papers; publish the public report; and organize an event for the release of the report. The 2003 G-8 Summit will be held in France.IIE is a private, nonprofit research institute devoted to the study of international economic policy.
