About this grant
In September 2002, key leaders of nonprofit sector support and membership organizations met to review the current state of the infrastructure and examine opportunities for closer collaboration. The group identified a number of major challenges including sustainability of funding, accountability and how to measure it, proliferation of organizations and lack of diversity among top leadership.Funding will support efforts to develop a map of infrastructure organizations; analyze current foundation support for the infrastructure; design a template to reveal the common characteristics of infrastructure organizations; assess the value and effectiveness of the infrastructure; draft a case statement on the infrastructure’s services to the broad nonprofit sector; and plan a future retreat. Additional funding will support research and help inform a subsequent retreat and other meetings in 2003 and 2004.The Council on Foundations, founded in 1949, is a membership organization of private, community and corporate foundations established to promote responsible and effective philanthropy.
