About this grant
This grant helps the Council on Foundations to research the scope and dimension of key nonprofit sector support and membership organizations in the United States, frequently referred to as the infrastructure organizations. A group of nearly a dozen leaders of these organizations held a retreat in 2002, examining critical issues such as sustainability of funding, accountability of the sector, the proliferation of nonprofit organizations, and lack of diversity among top leadership. Research will develop a typography of infrastructure organizations, survey field leaders on the value added of these organizations, and help inform a subsequent retreat planned for late 2003.
