About this grant

Currently, there are more than 300,000 non-governmental organizations (NGOs) in Russia, several established networks of civic initiatives, and various organized activities by which everyday people work to address social and other community concerns. Unfortunately, most Russians are unaware that such organizations exist. There is a vital need to develop and promote public interest skills in civic initiatives and NGOs through the media.Multiyear funding will enable the Foundation for Independent Radio Broadcasting to pursue objectives that include raising public awareness of NGO activities and social issues through radio and print materials; providing training and technical services to media, nonprofit, government and private sectors; and serving as a networking and resource exchange center for independent radio stations and NGOs.The foundation, established in 1999, promotes the development of Russian radio and works to ensure free dissemination of knowledge.
