About this grant
The goal of the Community Transformation and Capacity Building Programme is to provide training for local government and community representatives in the Blue Crane district of the Eastern Cape to help them participate in local government transformation and development. The Project for Conflict Resolution and Development provides conflict resolution, mediation, financial management, strategic planning and fundraising training to rural communities in the Eastern Cape.Multiyear funding will enable the project to support community development processes in several municipalities in the western region of the Eastern Cape by helping rural communities manage their own development; strengthening the capacity of select community-based organizations to prepare for upcoming local government elections; establishing conflict management systems for rural communities and local governments; and building the capacity of local government, particularly ward committees and local officials, to identify and prioritize the needs of their communities.Recent activities included educating ward committee members about the functions of ward committees and their respective roles; training community researchers to help communities identify their specific needs and priorities; launching a project to help communities build their knowledge base; and starting a community development workbook for community-based organizations in the region.
