About this grant

The Citizens and Governance Programme was developed to answer key questions about the meaning and practice of governance; how citizens and their civil society organizations can be included in governance; and how such inclusion strengthens civil society and impacts the ability of governments to meet basic needs.Funding will support objectives that include disseminating the lessons learned on governance through a toolkit and guidelines for citizens and civil society; sharing lessons learned through relevant national and international conferences held to influence policies and practices; and presenting a report to the 2003 Commonwealth Heads of Governance meeting on lessons learned, including the results of the toolkit and guidelines. The Commonwealth Foundation, founded in 1966, is an intergovernmental organization representing the Commonwealth countries. Included in its mission is strengthening the ability of citizens and civil society organizations to work together, with government and the private sector, to pursue good governance, people-centered and sustainable development, and poverty eradication.
