About this grant

This grant will continue support to Pacific Environment, a U.S.-based nonprofit organization that provides long-term technical assistance and training to environmental organizations in the Russian Far East and Siberia. Pacific Environment will work with its Russian partners in their efforts to engage communities in monitoring and decisionmaking regarding major natural resource exploitation projects. As these projects take on an increasingly international character, Russian environmental organizations will develop growing links with counterparts in countries such as China and Japan in order to find ways of broadening civic engagement in advocacy activities. Pacific Environment has over ten years’ experience working with partners in the Russian Far East and Siberia who have become increasingly capable in documenting environmental abuses, and in advocating in favor of improved practice.
