About this grant
The Mott Foundation Leadership Academy (MFLA) was started at the request of participants attending the Community Foundation of Greater Flint’s Summer Youth Program. The young people believed that teamwork and leadership skills were essential to job performance and requested a program that would expand their summer youth program experience and help them realize their potential.Funding will support the MFLA program, which will run for eight weeks, with 30 to 40 students participating in 10 half-day sessions. Each session will have a different theme. MFLA is part of a continuum of youth leadership activities as participants qualify for a leadership cycle spanning ninth through 12th grades. Approximately 300 young people, ages 14 to 18, will participate in the programThe Genesee Area Focus Council is a consortium of nonprofit, educational and business leaders with a focus on economic development issues that affect the quality of life in Genesee County.
