About this grant
The Coalition for Promotion and Protection of Human Rights – a network of 10 direct legal service providers in Croatia – works to monitor and promote the implementation of rights and protections guaranteed by the constitution and laws of Croatia, as well as international treaties and standards. Currently, there are more than 30 member offices in Croatia, representing more than 55,000 clients on human and civil rights issues annually.Multiyear funding will enable the coalition to continue efforts to strengthen the capacity of its members; encourage cooperation and collaboration among members on important issues; represent members at national, regional and international levels; and participate in projects that advance and support the common objectives of the coalition and its members. Specific activities will include promoting the provision of free legal aid in Croatia; analyzing the legal framework in Croatia for combatting racism and xenophobia; and improving communication with relevant government ministries and agencies.During 2003-2004, accomplishments included securing pension benefits for refugees; promoting free access to information; encouraging transparency of local courts; accessing state funding for free legal services; and holding regular meetings for members to share information and experiences.
