About this grant

Many people in Croatia struggle to understand and exercise their rights in light of major reforms and changes from the old system to a new one. Securing people’s rights is vital to maintaining trust in Croatia’s new democracy.Multiyear funding will enable the coalition to pursue objectives that include promoting the open, transparent and efficient work of local courts in two municipalities; raising public awareness about implications of the health insurance law in cooperation with interested target groups; working with non-governmental organizations (NGOs) representing specific target groups to develop strategies for analyzing and resolving legal issues; building relationships with key governmental institutions and offices dealing with health, justice and labor; encouraging cross-border cooperation with legal service providers and human rights organizations in Bosnia and Herzegovina and Serbia and Montenegro; and facilitating coordination among NGOs and international agencies in areas of refugee return in Croatia. The Coalition for Promotion and Protection of Human Rights is a network of eight legal service providers in Croatia that provide direct, free legal services primarily to refugees and displaced people and other people who otherwise cannot afford legal representation.
