About this grant
The recent reauthorization of the 1996 federal welfare reform law imposes rigid and restrictive work requirements that will require most states to make dramatic changes to their Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) programs between now and the end of September. This grant increase will enable the Center for Law and Social Policy to provide technical assistance to help state policymakers, administrators and program providers interpret and implement the new law. The center will also generate a set of policy briefs to help states understand the choices before them and identify promising programs and practices that emerge under the new regulations.
