About this grant

Since 1989, thousands of non-governmental organizations (NGOs) were established in Hungary to provide social services to the needy, mobilize citizens to improve their lives and promote other public programs. In time, the need arose for developing the capacity of NGOs to enable them to address new challenges, especially in rural Hungary where NGOs lack access to resources. Multiyear funding will support a network of NGO support centers to address these challenges by strengthening individual network members as well as the network as a whole. Activities will include organizing six, two-day conferences for network members to discuss important issues affecting Hungarian NGOs; providing regular consultations for legal and financial experts working for nonprofit support centers to increase their expertise; offering training sessions for directors, staff and volunteers; and working with network members to improve the operation of the network. The Eastern-Hungarian Community Service Foundation provides a wide variety of services to local communities and NGOs in eastern Hungary. Established in 1995, the foundation is one of the oldest and most experienced intermediary support organization in Hungary.
