About this grant
The Electoral Institute of South Africa works across the African continent to promote democratic governance, human rights, and citizen participation in a peaceful environment. This grant will provide continued support to the institute to work with civil society organizations, government officials, and politicians in Mpumalanga province, South Africa, to strengthen their capacity to engage effectively in democratic governance and sustainable service delivery at the local level. Past achievements include developing a scorecard and advocacy toolkit that allow civil society organizations to rank the current state of affairs in various municipalities regarding the delivery of basic services like water, electricity, and sanitation. Specifically, the grant renewal will support the institute’s work in the Gert Sibande District Municipality, Mpumalanga province, to train and support civil society organizations to enhance their capacity to engage constructively with local government and provide input to decisions that affect delivery and services at the local level.
