About this grant
The Centre for Rural Legal Studies works to protect and promote the rights of farmworkers and their families in the Western Cape province of South Africa. Past achievements include assisting with the establishment and strengthening of farm and rural community-based organizations in the central Karoo region of the Western Cape province to enable people who live and work on farms to realize their rights. It also conducted research and advocacy and provided backup legal services to people on farms. This grant will support the grantee to continue to assist farmworkers from rural areas of the central Karoo region of the Western Cape province to establish organizations that will help them access and realize their rights. The grantee will also develop the leadership capacity of these organizations to enable them to organize farmworkers to take collective action on issues that affect their lives. This grant has been made possible by a partnership with The Atlantic Philanthropies in support of the community advice office sector.
