About this grant
The Centre for Rural Legal Studies works to protect and promote the rights of farmworkers and their families in the Western Cape Province of South Africa. Past achievements include leading a campaign for clean water and decent sanitation for farmworker communities, and strengthening the institutional capacity of farmworker organizations. This grant will enable the grantee to train paralegals and boards of community advice offices in the Western Cape Province on a range of topics that ensure their survival and enable them to respond adequately to key issues that affect the lives of farm dwellers and the rural poor. The grantee will also strengthen the organizing skills of farmworker organizations, and assist them to monitor the enforcement of rights and policies on issues that affect farmworkers and farm dwellers.
