About this grant
The program goal is to increase public participation in decisionmaking and strengthen democratic practices at local and national levels in Bosnia-Herzegovina. The Forum of Tuzla Citizens works to foster local democracy development in the community of Tuzla in central Bosnia through the promotion of the rights and responsibilities of citizens and local government. The grantee is also prominent on the national level, working to strengthen Bosnia-Herzegovina’s development as a stable, multiethnic, and democratic state. Finally, the grantee works with other key nongovernmental organizations in the region to improve relations between Bosnia-Herzegovina, Croatia, Montenegro, and Serbia. Recent activities include organizing a series of workshops and seminars in local communities for representatives of the local authorities, citizens, nonprofit representatives, and the media on European standards of local self-governance; monitoring sessions of local municipal councils and informing citizens about these sessions; and increasing awareness of the past through public debates and other events.
