About this grant

Public participation in decisionmaking processes is vital to the development of civil society in Russia. Furthermore, encouraging young people to get involved in addressing social problems will develop civic and social responsibility as well as establish a firm base for a lasting civil society. However, one of the biggest problems facing Russia today is the deep sense of disengagement from mainstream society felt by youth. Another obstacle to developing civil society in Russia is the lack of indigenous grantmaking organizations that can respond to local needs.Multiyear funding will enable the Constructive Approach Foundation to assist non-governmental organizations (NGOs) focused on youth community-service projects. The foundation will promote youth activity by awarding grants to NGO projects for youth community service; projects that involve partnerships with higher educational institutions, social service agencies, businesses and the media; and projects that provide training programs for socially active youth. The Constructive Approach Foundation was established in 2000 to implement, support and develop targeted programs to engage youth in community service.
