About this grant

This grant will enable the Southern Institute for Education and Research to continue working with a group of practitioners and academics to develop cultural competency standards and evaluation methods for community and nonprofit organizations. Funding will support the second phase of the evaluation project, focusing on three goals: circulating the revised "working paper" for additional comments via the Internet; creating a consumer’s guide to selecting and evaluating cultural competency services; and developing a practical and useful evaluation process for diversity and cross-cultural communication training.During the first phase of the project, the institute selected a team of experts in intercultural communications to define cultural competency; identify behaviors that demonstrate competence; and develop methods to measure such behaviors.
