Building State Capacity and Supporting Statewide Afterschool Networks

About this grant

This grant will continue to support the Council of Chief State School Officers to help build state capacity among its members to implement federal legislation and support policies that expand the availability of high quality, afterschool programs. The council will: 1) provide technical assistance to the statewide afterschool networks as a partner of the Afterschool Technical Assistance Collaborative, a group of national organizations working together to support the statewide networks; 2) provide collaboration opportunities for state agency staff that implements the 21st Century Community Learning Centers and Supplemental Educational Services programs; and 3) manage and expand an online toolkit to support state-level implementation efforts. The council will also continue to partner with the National Governors Association Center for Best Practices and the National Conference of State Legislatures to engage leadership teams of state legislators, education chiefs, governors’ policy advisors, and statewide afterschool network leaders to further statewide afterschool policies.
