About this grant
Social Platform created the act4europe Campaign – EU Accession Countries to encourage non-governmental organizations (NGOs) from new member states and accession countries in the European Union (EU) to participate in the debate about the future of the EU. Multiyear funding will enable the campaign to address issues related to the ratification of the European Constitution, particularly implementation of articles concerning the nonprofit sector and citizen participation in decisionmaking, and accessibility of EU structural funds. Activities will include coordinating meetings related to developing participatory democracy; providing training for NGOs in new member states and accession countries on participation in EU debates; conducting research on NGO participation in EU affairs; and maintaining the act4europe Web site.Recent accomplishments included publishing four toolkits for NGOs on issues related to the development and ratification of the European Constitution and elections; organizing four capacity-building seminars for NGOs; disseminating a regular bulletin to NGO representatives throughout Europe; and providing advice and information to interested individuals or NGOs.
