About this grant

Increased community needs and funding pressures are prompting nonprofit organizations to strengthen their governance and management and be innovative in securing financial resources. At the same time, businesses are seeking greater involvement in addressing community issues. Based in Cleveland, Business Volunteers Unlimited (BVU) serves businesses and nonprofit organizations by placing business leaders on nonprofit boards. Funding will enable BVU to provide ongoing assistance to BVU Maryland, including follow-up counseling regarding board elections, business membership, and development and retention of board members. They will also assist with the launch of BVU Detroit in 2004.During the past year, BVU served more than 126 businesses by helping them develop and implement their community outreach strategies; training and placing business executives on nonprofit boards; and encouraging business professionals to provide volunteer management assistance to nonprofit organizations.
